TÜBİTAK 2209 Scientific Research Projects of Alaaddin Korkut, Abdullah Karaman, Buse Meriç Açar and Hümeyra Karaca who are our undergraduate students of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department of İstinye University, were accepted. We congratulate our students for their great success.
On July 18, 2019, the Departments of Economics, Sociology and International Relations jointly organized a panel titled "Seeking an Alternative Economy". In the panel, Dr. Melik Ertuğrul, Dr. Çiğdem Gürsoy, Dr. Suat Eren Özyiğit and Sociology Department Head Dr. Ömer Ersin Kahraman made presentations.
Prof. Rita Krespi Ülgen attended the 1st Istanbul Health Sciences Congress held on 21-22 June 2019 at Istinye University. Prof. Krespi Ülgen gave a seminar entitled "Stress: The Wind That Blows My Sail" in the "Mental Health" Panel moderated by Prof. Arzu Razak Özdinçler. In her speech, she discussed the positive and negative effects of stress and post-traumatic growth within the context of chronic physical illness.
Istinye University Department of Turkish Language and Literature lecturers Dr. Feyzi Cimen and Dr. Mehmet Ali Gündoğdu participated in INCSOS 5th International Social Sciences Symposium with one paper each.
Assoc. Dr. Alev Erkilet published an article titled "Is there a negative impact of the Islamic world in the formation of Islamophobia?" in the magazine of "Din ve Hayat" prepared by İstanbul Müftülüğü. A Panel entitled "Islamophobia or Hostility to Islam" organized for this special issue concerning Islamophobia. Erkilet was one of the panelists. The moderator of the panel was the Mufti of Istanbul, Prof. Dr. Hasan Kamil Yılmaz and other panelists were Dr. Ejder Okumus and Prof. Dr. Bayram Ali Çetinkaya. The panel was held at Üsküdar Municipality Bağlarbaşı Congress and Culture Center on June 26th at 14:30. Alev Erkilet made a speech about the emergence of the term Islamophobia and she evaluated Islamophobia as a form of stereotypical threat against Muslims. On the other hand, she drew attention to the relationship between Islamophobia and the internal affairs of the Islamic world.

The seminar entitled "Merhabâ to Dîvân Poetry" organized by Istinye University Department of Turkish Language and Literature took place on 25 October Wednesday at Topkapı Campus with the participation of Prof.Dr.Mine MENGİ
Istanbul University Faculty of Letters Head of the Department of Old Turkish Language Prof. Dr. Fikret Turan evaluated the past, current position and possible future developments of the Turkish language in the seminar titled "Turkology's Past, Present, Tomorrow".
English Language and Literature freshman students, for their Mythology course with Lecturer Marguerite Dreyer, made their end of the term presentations. Students gave life to ancient legends of their own choosing, with their creative presentations.
The Head of Sociology Department, Dr. Ömer Ersin Kahraman presented his new paper at Galatasaray University on April 10th.
Kahraman attended the workshop "Subjectivités dance Turquie contemporaine: formes, Tendances, experiences [Contemporary Subjectivity in Turkey: Forms, Tendencies, Experiences]", and gave a speech titled "La subjectivatio et l'Evidence de concurrence au travail. [Subjectivation and evidence of competition at work]".
Our sociology department faculty member Assoc. Dr. Alev Erkilet appeared in Nobel Publishing's new book entitled "Beğeniler: Gündelik Hayatta Toplumsal Değişimin Yansımaları" (Tastes: Reflections of Social Change in Everyday Life) edited by Lütfi Sunar. Erkilet has written a chapter in this book titled "Mahremiyetin dönüşümü: Tesettür pratiklerinin beğeni konusu haline gelmesi" (Transformation of Privacy: Making Hijab Practices a Subject of Taste).
Assoc. Dr. Alev Erkilet from Istinye Sociology department participated in the workshop organized by Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University Social Research and Application Center (TAM), as an invited speaker. The topic of the workshop was "Speaking about the concept of gender" and Erkilet made a speech entitled "Gender Debate in the world and Turkey".
