Hayri Şafak Ural completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara. He graduated from the Department of Philosophy at DTCF in 1971. In 1977, he was appointed as an assistant to the Chair of Systematic Philosophy at Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters. He received his Ph.D. in 1978 with his work titled "An Essay on Determining the Principle of Simplicity in Positive Sciences". Between 1979-1980, he worked at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Vienna. In 1982, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Systematic Philosophy and Logic Department at the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University. In 1983, he became an associate professor, and since 1988, he works as a professor. He has participated in lectures and seminars in various countries including the United States, Hungary, Singapore, Brazil, and India. He also taught logic and philosophy of science at various universities in Istanbul. He served as the Vice-Rector of Istanbul University between 2004-2009 and as a faculty member at the Department of Logic at Istanbul University, which he founded and held the presidency between 2000 and 2015. He established the Istanbul University Logic Application and Research Center in 2014 and he was the president for one year. From 1989 to 2015, he was the head of the Department of Philosophy at Istanbul University. On 16 December 2014, he became the founding chairman of the Logic Implementation Association and was elected as the first president of the Logic Association on 12 January 2015. He has been organizing Logic Workshop since 2012 and Logic Summer School since 2014.
